Ang Madyik Silya ni Eseng (Eseng’s Magic Chair)

I created this piece for Ang Ink’s annual exibit. The 2019 one was themed Inkwento and it was about stories from your childhood and the magic moment you felt. Read on to learn about mine.

There were 5 siblings in our family and as such we had to share EVERYTHING. This is especially true for us three middle kids because we were just 1-2 years apart. One day, our parents brought home two chairs that they had meant for the three of us to share. Boy were they wrong. We fought tooth and nails and there was a lot of crying! And so my dad, in an effort to calm us down, talked to me and promised that he will just give me a different chair. A chair so wonderful and big and magical that it even sings and flies! I’ve been waiting 30 years for this moment to happen.
